Business Need/Purpose of Role:
Weir is contributing towards skills development in South Africa, by providing opportunities to school leavers and unemployed youth to enter a four-year apprentice programme in the following trade:
- Moulding
Job Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Matric with Maths and Science above 60%
- N3 in the Mechanical trade – passed all subjects above 60 percent
- Or NCV Level 4 in the mechanical trades, passed all subjects at 60 % and above
- Local Requirement: Applicants must have a letter from the Chief or municipal letter with accompanying affidavit that they reside no further than a 50 Km radius from the specific branch.
- Preference will be given to EE candidates in line with our EE and Skills plans
Key Tasks:
Including but not limited to:
- Moulding, stripping, painting and closing of copes and drags
- Prepare moulds, cores, core boxes and repair surface imperfections
- Insert applicable cores in the mould
- Ensure moulds are clean before closing
- Close moulds according to specifications
- Calibration of sand and chemicals
- Ensure that consumable stock items are maintained and report low stock levels to the Foreman
- Move assembled moulds to designated areas
- Stack items in allocated areas and in a safe manner
- Achieve set production targets
- Perform TPM checklists
- Always adhere to Company policies and procedures, standard operating procedures and work instructions (SOPs and WI)
- Operate machines / equipment in accordance with safe work instructions
- Always work according to efficiency standards
- Identify any potential hazards and risks and report to the Shift Leaders
- To adhere to required protective clothing rules and ensure appropriate PPE is worn at all times
- Attend compulsory safe start / green are meetings at the beginning of every shift
- Adherence to quality control as per work instructions
